Production is underway on Europe C-19 (working title), a documentary feature from five top European directors portraying local dramas and responses to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The co-production will consist of five short films of approximately 15 minutes each to be shot by the UK’s Michael Winterbottom, Germany’s director Julia von Heinz; Spain’s Fernando León de Aranoa; Belgium’s Jaco Von Dormael; and Italy’s Michele Placido.
Guglielomo Marchetti’s Rome-based Notorious Pictures is producing the feature with backing from Germany’s FilmFernsehFonds Bayern, Belgium’s Casa Kafka Pictures and VooBeTV, and Italian fiscal incentive MiBACT.
A portion of the revenues from the project will be donated to a European medical research institution.
Winterbottom began filming for the documentary on September 5 in London.
The European producing partners are Joseph Rouschop’s Tarantula in Belgium; Philipp Kreuzer for Maze Pictures in Germany; Miguel Menendez De Zubillaga’s Mono Films and León de Aranoa’s Reposado in Spain; and Winterbottom and Melissa Parmenter’s Revolution Films in the UK.
Notorious describes the project as “European directors unified as a symbol of a United Europe in this very particular and challenging year.”
