Minka Kelly, Maggie Grace and Dermot Mulroney will star in thriller Blackwater Lane, an adaptation of UK author B.A. Paris’ book The Breakdown, now shooting in Suffolk in the UK.
Kelly stars as a woman who drives by a stranded motorist later revealed to have been murdered. A series of terrifying events then convince the woman that she is the killer’s next victim.
It is directed by US filmmaker Jeff Celentano, whose credits 2018 boxing thriller Glass Jaw, and baseball drama The Hill starring Dennis Quaid.
Blackwater Lane is fully financed by Ron Cundy of Kompros Films, Phil Hunt of HeadGear and Norman Merry of LipSync. Los-Angeles-based 13 Films is handling world sales on the title.
The producers are Elizabeth Fowler, Warren Ostergard and Lucinda Thakrar. Further executive producers are Greg Schenz, Tannaz Anisi and Oleg Shardin. Alex Lane is co-producer.
Fowler described the film as “an intelligent female-driven thriller set in the British countryside with lots of layers and a very modern twist.”
It is the first film adaptation of one of Paris’ books; her debut novel Behind Closed Doors has sold more than 3.5m copies worldwide.
