Entertainment One (eOne), Hopscotch Features and Guerilla Films have announced that Monica Bellucci, Ben O’Toole and Tess Haubrich will star in the sci-fi horror film Nekromancer by Australian filmmaker brothers Kiah and Tristan Roache-Turner.
The film is being financed by eOne together with Screen Australia and Create NSW. eOne will distribute the film, with partners Sierra/Affinity handling worldwide sales.
Nekromancer is a sci-fi-horror that traverses the full spectrum of human (and inhuman) emotion. The Roache-Turner brother’s return to their brand of gore and comedy, prominent in their debut feature Wyrmwood. Kiah Roache-Turner will direct, with Andrew Mason and Troy Lum producing for Hopscotch Features, together with Tristan Roache-Turner of Guerilla Films.
Bellucci’s film credits include The Passion Of The Christ, Gaspar Noé’s Irréversible, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, and Spectre. She most recently appeared as the bride in Emir Kusturica’s On The Milky Road.
O’Toole stars in Kathryn Bigelow’s Detroit as well as the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced war drama Horse Soldiers. He has also appeared in Russell Crowe’s The Water Diviner, Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge and Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
Haubrich appeared in Alien: Covenant, stars in Jackie Chan’s upcoming Bleeding Steel and has just wrapped on season two of Wolf Creek.
“Monica Bellucci brings her wonderful talents and considerable glamour to our production and we are thrilled to have her on board working alongside this group of exciting up-and-coming actors,” Kiah Roache-Turner and the producers said.
Mason and Lum said: “Kiah and Tristan are among the most exciting new talents in this genre and we’re delighted to be working with such bold new filmmakers.”
Nekromancer will shoot at various locations in Sydney later this year.
