Twentieth Century Fox announces UK release date for George Clooney’s Second World War adventure.

The Monuments Men is to released by Twentieth Century Fox in the UK on Feb 14, 2014.

Directed by and starring George Clooney, the dramatic adventure is based on the true story of an unlikely Second World War platoon tasked with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners.

Based on the book of the same name by Robert M. Edsel, The Monuments Men reunites Clooney with long-time producing and writing partner Grant Heslov in their first production since winning the Best Picture Oscar for Argo. 

Clooney is joined on-screen by an ensemble cast including Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, Hugh Bonneville, Cate Blanchett and Dimitri Leonidas.

It will receive its international premiere at the 64th Berlinale in February

The Monuments Men is a co-production by Obelisk Productions Limited and Studio Babelsberg. Shooting took place at Studio Babelsberg, in the Goslar region and in Berlin, among other locations.

Twentieth Century Fox, which has international rights, will release the film in Germany on Feb 20.

Sony has the US rights and will release the film on Feb 7.
