Hunter Schafer, John Malkovich, Gemma Chan and Sofia Boutella will star for Neon in Cuckoo, Tilman Singer’s follow-up to his feature debut supernatural horror and 2018 Berlinale selection Luz.
Neon is financing the horror project which is set to commence principal photography in April 2022 and is being produced by Ken Kao and Josh Rosenbaum of Waypoint Entertainment, Markus Halberschmidt and Maria Tsigka of Fiction Park, and Thor Bradwell.
Jan Bluthardt, Zita Hanrot and Proschat Madani round out the cast on Cuckoo. Plot details remain under wraps.
Schafer made her acting in the series Euphoria. Malkovich’s many credits include Oscar nods for Places In The Heart and In The Line Of Fire. Chan broke out in Crazy Rich Asians and will next be seen in Eternals and Don’t Worry Darling. Among Boutella’s creidts are The Kingsman, The Mummy and Atomic Blonde.
Last month Neon brought three films to Cannes: Julia Ducournau’s Palme d’Or winner Titane, Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s Memoria and anthology feature The Year Of The Everlasting Storm.
The company acquired Joachim Trier’s Competition selection The Worst Person In The World and Jonas Carpignano’s A Chiara in the Directors’ Fortnight section. Coming up is Pablo Larrain’s Venice world premiere Spencer.
