Sources have confirmed Netflix’s $30m worldwide buy excluding China on the animation feature and Cannes market title Next Gen.

Screen understands that contrary to reports the deal was done prior to Cannes.

Kevin Adams and Joe Ksander directed the story of two friends in a world of robots. The film is based on the original comic 7723 by Wang Nima from Baozou, and Baozou is the producer and financier of the film. Tangent Animation also produces.

The voice cast features Charlyne Yi, Jason Sudeikis, David Cross, Michael Pena and Constance Wu.

CAA Media Finance negotiated the deal on behalf of the filmmakers. Alibaba and Wanda will distribute the animation in China in the summer.
