Ahead of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nominations on Wednesday it has emerged that Netflix has struck a multi-year deal to stream the annual SAG Awards live on its platform starting in 2024.
The development comes as Netflix explores live streaming and prepares its first live broadcast of a Chris Rock comedy special on March 4.
This year’s 29th Annual SAG awards will be broadcast online on February 26. Netflix will stream the show on its YouTube channel and promote the ceremony on its social channels, before it starts to broadcast the ceremony on its service next year.
SAG-AFTRA national executive director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland said the Guild was looking forward to “expanding the global audience for our show”.
Netflix head of global TV Bela Bajaria said the partnership would “elevate and expand this special ceremony as a global live event in 2024 and the years to come.”
This year’s 29th Annual SAG awards is scheduled to be broadcast online on February 26.
