Giant screen operator expands partnership with Odeon UCI.
IMAX Corporation and Odeon-UCI Cinemas Group have announced plans for a new IMAX theatre in the Odeon Trafford Centre multiplex in Manchester.
The deal brings the total number of IMAX theatres operated by Odeon to 15 in the UK.
No exact date was given but it was stated that the new IMAX will be open in time for the release of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which are due in November and December respectively.
“IMAX has consistently strengthened the performance of our cinemas, delivering a unique, immersive and premium cinematic experience that drives higher attendance per screen,” said Rupert Gavin, CEO of Odeon-UCI Cinemas Group.
Odeon & UCI Cinemas Group is the largest cinema operator in Europe. It operates 2,182 screens at 237 sites across Europe and 115 in the UK.
As of June 30, 2013, there were 767 IMAX theatres in 54 countries.
