HBO has ordered The Undoing, a limited series that will reunite Big Little Lies star Nicole Kidman and creator David E Kelley.
Based on 2014 novel You Should Have Known by Jean Hanff Korelitz, the series has been given a straight-to-series order, though the number of episodes has not yet been determined.
Kidman will star in the psychological thriller about a successful therapist with a devoted husband and young son who just before the publication of her book has to deal with a violent death and a missing husband and create a new life for herself and her child.
Kelley will adapt the book and act as showrunner and executive producer through his David E Kelley Productions. Kidman and Per Saari will be executive producers through their Blossom Films and Bruna Papandrea, who was an executive producer on the Emmy-winning Big Little Lies, will serve as executive producer through Made Up Stories.
HBO programming president Casey Bloys said: “We’re thrilled to continue our creative relationships with both Nicole and David and can’t wait to bring this show to life.”
Kidman added: “David has created another propulsive series with a fascinating, complicated female role at its center. I’m excited and honoured to continue collaborating with HBO and David E Kelley.”
Kelley said: “I loved this book. A character driven psychological thriller, I’m excited about the adaptation and thrilled to be able to do it with Nicole and HBO.”
