EXCLUSIVE: Deal signed following French premiere at Deauville.
Other Angle has acquired world rights to Zoe Cassavetes’ second feature Day Out of Days, following a 40-something, former movie star whose acting career has hit the buffers.
The Paris-based sales company signed the film following its French premiere at the Deauville American Film Festival last week.
French actress Alexia Landeau, who appeared alongside Julie Delpy in 2 Days In Paris and its sequel 2 Days In New York, stars with support from Eddie Izzard, Melanie Griffith and Alessandro Nivola.
Day Out of Days premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival in June.
“It’s got a great little cast,” said Other Angle co-chief Olivier Albou who will commence sales on the film in Toronto this week.
Full Speed
Another key addition to the Other Angle slate is Full Speed (A Fond), the latest film from Nicolas Benamou, director of the hit French found-footage comedy Babysitting, which drew more than 2 million admissions at home and sold well internationally.
The action comedy, which is currently shooting, stars José Garcia, and André Dussollier as members of a family on a hair-raising drive to their holidays in the south of France after the cruise control of their car jams at top speed.
Other Angle will have a script for the film as well as first images in Toronto.
“We’ve already secured a handful of sales on the basis of the script,” said Albou.
Wild Bunch Distribution has already picked up the film for France where it will be released next summer. Oscar-winning producer Thomas Langmann’s La Petite Reine is producing.
TIFF slate
Other new titles on Other Angle’s TIFF slate Alexandra Leclerc’s Paris-set comedy The Roommates Party, about an unlikely set of housemates thrown together by a new French law forcing wealthy apartment owners to house families that cannot afford Paris rents. Wild Bunch has acquired the title for a Christmas release.
The company will also continue sales on John Hay’s previously announced Second World War espionage drama Lives in Secret, which is due to shoot early next year in the UK with Tim Roth and Kelly Reilly in the lead roles.
