The Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced on Tuesday (January 7) its film and TV nominees, with Parasite, The Irishman and Golden Globe winners 1917 and Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood in the mix for best film.
The Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures is regarded as a strong bellwether for the Oscars, with 21 winners going on to claim the best picture Oscar since the Guild’s inception.
Feature nominees include Marriage Story, Ford v Ferrari, Joker, Knives Out, Jojo Rabbit, and Little Women.
Animation feature nominees are Golden Globe winner Missing Link, Toy Story 4, Frozen II, Abominable, and How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.
HBO dominates the episodic drama categories with nods for Golden Globe winner Succession, Game Of Thrones, Big Little Lies and Watchmen, as well as Netflix’s The Crown.
Barry and Veep fly the flag for HBO in comedy episodic comedy category alongside two from Amazon Studios – Fleabag and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel – and Canadian production Schitt’s Creek.
In the limited series contest, HBO’s Golden Globe winner Chernobyl and True Detective are up against Netflix’s Unbelievable and When They See Us, and FX’s Fosse/Verdon.
Winners will be announced at the 31st Annual Producers Guild Awards in Hollywood on January 18.
