London-based Parkland Pictures has secured international sales rights outside of Africa for South African sports drama Beyond The River.
Directed by Craig Freimond (Material), the film is based on the true story of two men from different backgrounds in Post-Apartheid South Africa who compete in the challenging Dusi Canoe Marathon.
Grant Swanby (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom) plays former champion canoe racer Steve and Lemogang Tsipa (Eye in the Sky) is Duma, a man who looks to canoe racing as refuge from his disadvantaged environment.
Writer/producer Robbie Thorpe joined Craig Freimond to write the screenplay, while cinematography was handled by Trevor Calverley. Harriet Gavshon of Quizzical Pictures serves as producer.
Beyond the River was selected for the Busan International Film Festival 2017.
The film joins two other Parkland Pictures, Charlotte Vega’s Provenance and Stephen Berkoff’s adaptation of Edgar Allen Poe’s Tell Tale Heart, at the American Film Market next week.
