UK LGBTQ+ specialist Peccadillo Pictures has picked up The Lost Boys from Paris-based Indie Sales for distribution in the UK and Ireland, following its premiere in the Generation strand at the Berlinale, plus a raft of other titles off the back of the European Film Market (EFM).
Belgian filmmaker Zeno Graton’s The Lost Boys sees two young men attempt to keep their burgeoning relationship under wraps at a tough juvenile detention centre. It stars Peter Von Kant’s Khalil Ben Gharbia alongside Julien De Saint Jean. It is produced by France’s Silex Films and Belgium’s Menuetto Film.
A UK theatrical release is planned for later this year.
Further titles acquired are Austrian filmmaker David Wagner’s military drama Eismayer, picked up from Paris-based Loco Films, and the winner of the grand prize at Venice Critics’ Week. A sergeant major’s heteronormative existence is shaken when he falls in love with an out and proud new recruit. Producers are Arash T. Riahi and Sabine Gruber for Austria’s Golden Girls Film.
Peccadillo also closed deals on two Canadian titles, Jason Karman’s teen drama Golden Delicious, about a young boy’s coming out in Vancouver’s Asian-Canadian community, which was picked up from producer Kristyn Stilling, and Sarah Watts and Mark Slutsky’s You Can Live Forever, acquired from producer Robert Vroom, which follows an intense affair between two young women in a Jehovah’s Witness community, and world premiered at Tribeca.
Rounding out Peccadillo’s pickups is Brazil’s official entry for the 2022 Oscars, Aly Muritiba’s Private Desert, which sees a newly suspended policeman embark on a journey cross-country to find an elusive love-interest. Intra Movies represents sales and Brazil’s Grafo Audiovisual and Porgutal’s Fado Filmes produced.
