Phase 4 Films has acquired all US and Canadian rights to animated 3D feature Space Dogs from Epic Pictures Group. Phase 4 plans to release the film theatrically and via its video on demand platform, which will make the title available in more than thirty million homes nationwide.
Based on the true story of two dogs sent into space by the Soviet Union in 1960, Space Dogs was co-directed by Inna Evlannikova and Svyatoslav Ushakov and produced by Patrick Ewald, Shaked Berenson and Vadim Sotskov.
The deal was negotiated by Phase 4 vice president of acquisitions Jessica Labi and Epic’s Ewald and Berenson, who also executive produced the film.
Phase 4 also recently acquired all US rights to Another Happy Day, Sam Levinson’s dark comedy starring Ellen Barkin, Demi Moore and Kate Bosworth, and all Canadian rights to Kevin Smith’s Red State, which stars Michael Parks, Melissa Leo, John Goodman and Kyle Gallner. The films had their world premieres at this year’s Sundance.
