Berlin-based sales outfit Picture Tree International (PTI) has picked up international rights to director Bradley Liew’s genre-bending horror film Motel Acacia. XYZ is co-repping the film for North America.
The film marks Liew’s second feature after Singing In The Graveyards, which premiered in Critics Week at Venice in 2016.
Now in post-production, Motel Acacia is about a young man being groomed to take over the family business – a motel in the Filipino wilderness that seemingly provides shelter to illegal immigrants on behalf of the government. Belgian actor Jan Bijvoet stars with the Philippine’s JC Santos .
Motel Acacia is a co-production between Bianca Balbuena and Bradley Liew’s Philippines-based company Epicmedia ,Jeremy Chua’s Singapore- based Potocol with Sloveni’s Studio Virc and Croatia’s Nukleus Films. The project was developed at EAVE Ties That Bind 2016, Jerusalem Film Lab in 2017, Talents Tokyo 2017 and presented at the Berlinale Coproduction Market in 2018.
