Power to the Pixel has selected more than 30 participants for its cross-media workshop.
A total of 16 cross-media projects from across Europe have been chosen to take part in the annual Pixel Lab, taking place in Wallonia in Belgium at the end of the month.
Now in its fourth year, it offers media professionals a six-day workshop on how to create, produce and distribute cross-media stories that can engage audiences as well as monetise.
Participants include 16 international producers showcasing projects that incorporate film, gaming, mobile, publishing, live events, interactive, TV and online as well as 15 media professionals from across the industry.
Participants attending with a project include award-winning producers Holly Elson from Hark Pictures Ltd with Moondog: The Viking of 6th Avenue (UK), AGITROP’s Martichka Bozhilova with The Cars We Drove Into Capitalism (Bulgaria) and Robert Cibis from OVALfilm GmbH with Pop the Glock! (Germany).
Each project producer will be partnered with a participant not bringing a project, including screenwriters, directors, commissioning editors, financiers, story architects, cross-media and interactive producers.
This year participants include representatives from ARTE, the Danish Film Institute and Memento Films amongst others.
The residential week at the end of June is the beginning of a four-month process. From June to September, producers will continue their work with Power to the Pixel heads, Liz Rosenthal and Tishna Molla, on project strategy.
The Pixel Lab culminates at PttP’s Cross-Media Forum in London in October, when one producer will be awarded The Pixel Lab Prize, after a presentation of the projects to a jury of industry leaders.
In addition, up to three producers will be selected to present their project at TorinoFilmLab’s Final Meeting Event held during the Turin Film Festival in November.
The Pixel Lab tutors this year include Michel Reilhac, Artistic Advisor for Venice Biennale College (France), Lance Weiler, Cross-Media Pioneer and story architect (US), Sean Coleman, cross-media writer and producer (UK), Diana Elbaum, Managing Director & Producer, Entre Chien et Loup (Belgium), Michelle Kass, film and literary agent of Michelle Kass Associates (UK) and Loc Dao, Head of Digital Content & Strategy, National Film Board of Canada. Other experts taking part include Nuno Bernardo, CEO and producer of beActive (Portugal), Adam Sigel, Content Strategist, Writer & Producer (US), Peter De Maegd, Founder & Producer, Potemkino Films (Belgium), Thomas Howalt, Creative Development Manager, Square Enix (Denmark), Inga von Staden, Media Architect & Educator (Germany), Nathaniel Hill, Director of Strategy, Hypernaked (UK) and Media lawyers Christoph Fey, Unverzagt von Have (Germany) and Shona Harper, Dentons, EMEA (UK).
The Pixel Lab is supported by the MEDIA Programme of the European Union, TorinoFilm Lab and Creative Skillset’s Film Skills Fund, which is funded by the National Lottery via the BFI and through the Skills Investment Fund, which comprises industry and government co-investment.
PttP also announced earlier this year that The Pixel Lab would benefit from two new funding partners following new partnership agreements with European funding body Creative Wallonia and Wallimage CrossMedia.
The Pixel Lab will run from June 30 to July 6 at the Château du Lac in Genval, Belgium. Producers attending with a project attend a second workshop run in London in tandem with PttP’s Cross-Media Forum, from October 14-17 held in association with the BFI London Film Festival.
