Modern Films has picked up UK and Ireland rights to Jan P. Matuszyński’s Venice competition title Leave No Traces from New Europe Film Sales.
The film is now screening at the BFI London Film Festival and is Poland’s entry to the best international film Oscar.
New Europe has also closed deals for the film in Hungary (Mozinet), Greece (Cinobo), Sweden (Lucky Dogs) and Czech Republic (Aero).
Leave No Traces is the second feature from Polish director Matuszyński following The Last Family. It is produced by Warsaw-based Aurum Film, the company behind Jan Komasa’s Oscar-nominated Corpus Christi.
The film is set in 1983 in Poland and is based on a true story. It follows the shocking case of Grzegorz Przemyk, a high-school student randomly arrested and beaten to death by militia and Jurek, the only witness of the beating, who overnight became the number one enemy of the state.
The cast is led by Tomasz Zietek, Sandra Korzeniak and Mateusz Górski.
New Europe previously sealed deals for the film with Memento Films Distribution for France, Imagine Film Distribution for Benelux and Scanorama for Lithuania.
