Amazon Prime Video has unveiled its first Nigerian originals; crime-thriller Gangs Of Lagos and comedy series LOL: Last One Laughing Naija to be released later this year.
Prime Video has launched its first local marketing campaign in the country and will allow customers to subscribe to the streamer using local currency (Nigerian Naira) for the first time.
Gangs Of Lagos follows a group of friends growing up in a Lagos neighbourhood and stars Tobi Bakre, Adesua Etomi-Wellington, and Chiké. Jade Osiberu directed the film and produces alongside Kemi Lala Akindoju with co-producer Akin Omotoso.
An unscripted comedy series, LOL: Last One Laughing Naija sees 10 comedians compete to be the “last one laughing” and it will be hosted by the comedian Basketmouth. It is produced by Livespot360.
Both projects were filmed entirely in Nigeria and will launch on the streamer later this year, with Gangs Of Lagos releasing in 240 territories and LOL worldwide.
In the last year, Prime Video has also made licensing agreements with two leading Nigerian production companies, Anthill Studios and Inkblot Studios, to grant the streamer exclusive access to their films following a theatrical release.
