UK actor and filmmaker Sadie Frost’s feature documentary Twiggy has commenced production in London, with Studio Soho – part of the Film Soho group – set to release the title theatrically in the UK and Ireland in 2023, and Studio Soho also repping international sales.
Twiggy takes a comprehensive look at the life story of UK model and cultural icon Twiggy, real name Lesley Lawson, whose career kickstarted in the 1960s. It features interviews with Twiggy and her husband Leigh Lawson, as well as commentary from Erin O’Connor, Paul McCartney, Lulu, Poppy Delavigne, Brooke Shields, Pattie Boyd and Zandra Rhodes.
The feature is being filmed in Film Soho’s virtual production stage in central London, V-Studios, and on location in New York. The virtual production stage is being used to recreate significant moments from Twiggy’s life, with Twiggy playing herself.
Nick Hamson produces for London-based Soho Talent (also part of the Film Soho group) and Simon Jones for UK outfit Reel Time, which is Frost and Andrew Green’s production company.
BBC England has commissioned the documentary for BBC transmission in the UK on linear and streaming platform, iPlayer, following the theatrical release. Aisling O’ Connor, head of TV commissioning for BBC England will executive produce for the BBC.
Twiggy is the second feature documentary from Frost, following her debut, BFI London Film Festival 2021 premiere Quant, which explored the legacy of 1960s fashion designer Mary Quant, and was released in the UK by Studio Soho.
