Principal photography has wrapped in Cape Town, South Africa, on UK writer-director Campbell X’s Low Rider – a UK-South Africa co-production.
A first-look image has also been released.
Low Rider stars UK actor Emma McDonald and South African Thishiwe Ziqubu, and follows the adventures of a woman named Quinn as she flies from London to Cape Town to search for her absent father. Along the way she forms a bond with a charismatic stranger, Harley, who offers to help her on her quest to find her increasingly elusive father.
It is the first feature produced by UK production outfit Boudica Entertainment, a new venture set up by Rebecca Long and Stella Nwimo. Local production support for the feature came from South African producer Natalie Geyser at Rise and Shine Films, with financing from the BFI through National Lottery funding, LipSync and Head Gear.
“It’s been a joy to explore Quinn and Harley’s complex, visceral, often dangerous and always sexually charged journey,” said Campbell X. “Low Rider was a wonderful opportunity to queer the road trip and Western genres.”
Campbell X’s previous credits include their 2012 debut, queer romantic comedy, Stud Life, on which Nwimo was a producer.
