Mimi Steinbauer’s sales, finance, and production outfit Radiant Films International has closed major deals on TIFF sales title and upcoming action-comedy The Retirement Plan starring Nicolas Cage, Ashley Greene and Ron Perlman.
Writer-director Tim Brown’s film follows a woman who appeals to her estranged, retired beach bum father in the Cayman Islands for help when she and her daughter get caught up with criminals.
When the reunited family are tracked down on the island by a crime boss and his lieutenant, it emerges there is more to her father than meets the eye. The cast includes Jackie Earle Haley and Thalia Campbell.
Radiant has licensed rights to Signature for the UK, Eagle Pictures for Italy, Madman for Australia and New Zealand, Vertical for Eastern Europe, and YouPlanet for Spain.
Producers are Productivity Media CEO William G. Santor and Darius Films president Nicholas Tabarrok, who have a multi-picture deal with authorities in the Cayman Islands where the film was shot. Jason Jallet and Doug Murray also serve as producers.
John Hills and Andrew Chang-Sang serve as executive producers. Radiant jointly represents world sales with Joker Films.
“Nic, Ashley and Ron are masters of this genre and make for an absolutely electric ensemble,” said Steinbauer. “We’re so glad our valued network of international partners agree and leapt at the opportunity to share this hilarious action comedy with worldwide audiences.”
The Retirement Plan marks the third film produced under a three-picture production deal between Darius Films and Productivity Media shooting on the Islands. The first, Daniel’s Gotta Die, is currently in post-production. The dark comedy stars Joel David Moore, Bob Saget, Jason Jones, Carly Chaikin, Mary Lynn Rajskub and Iggy Pop.
The other feature is The Baker, which just wrapped and stars Perlman as a quiet man who gets pulled into the criminal underworld to avenge his son’s death by a crime boss played by Harvey Kietel.
Radiant is handling international sales on both titles.
