UK film and TV company Raw is teaming with Film4 and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment (SKE) to develop a fiction feature film version of its prize-winning documentary Three Identical Strangers, which premiered at Sundance earlier this year.
Directed by Tim Wardle, Three Identical Strangers won the special jury prize for documentary storytelling at Sundance in January. It told the true story of three strangers who grow up in New York unaware they are identical triplets who were separated at birth. When they are reunited the media interest in their story has unintended and disturbing repercussions.
The as-yet-untitled feature version will be produced by Raw’s Katherine Butler and Dimitri Doganis and SKE’s Sidney Kimmel and John Penotti. Wardle will executive produce but not direct the new film.
No director or any cast are yet attached to the project.
The documentary was financed and executive produced by CNN Films and Channel 4 (UK). It was released theatrically in the US by Neon and has grossed nearly $3m to date since its release on June 29. Channel 4 has UK TV rights.
