Germany-based Rise And Shine World Sales has completed deals on CPH:DOX titles including Einari Paakkanen’s Finnish feature Karaoke Paradise, which had its world premiere last week at the festival.
Docs Barcelona Distribution has acquired the film for Spain, with a date still to be confirmed for the release.
Described as a “feel-good film”, Karaoke Paradise tells the story of how karaoke culture has unexpectedly taken hold in the cold north of Finland.
Rise and Shine has also sold Germany and Austria rights for Magnus Gertten’s Berlinale 2022 title Nelly & Nadine to sister company Rise And Shine Cinema, which will release the film later this year. Nelly & Nadine tells the story of two women who fell in love on Christmas Eve in the Ravensbruck concentration camp, and whose relationship was kept a secret for many years.
It debuted in Panorama in Berlin, winning the Teddy jury award for LGBTQ+ films in the festival; and played at CPH:DOX earlier this week.
Rise and Shine is also representing two titles in the main DOX:Award competition – festival opener Into The Ice, and Susanne Meures’ Girl Gang. The former was produced by Rise and Shine’s managing director Stefan Kloos through his company Kloos & Co. His producing credits also include 2017’s Oscar-nominated Last Men In Aleppo.
