Halyna Hutchins

A little over a year since the tragic death of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office investigators have passed their report to the New Mexico district attorney.

According to reports the Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said the report will not be shared publicly before November 10.

On October 21, 2021, actor-producer Alec Baldwin discharged a prop gun during a rehearsal on the western. Hutchins, 42, was struck and died later that day. Among other things investigators were trying to find out how live rounds made their way on to the set at Bonanza Creek Ranch near Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Baldwin has said he was told the gun contained no live ammunition when he received it from first assistant director Dave Halls, who had taken the weapon from the production’s armourer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed. All three say they are not to blame, as does Seth Kenny, who supplied guns and ammunition to the production.

Earlier this month Hutchins’s estate reached a settlement with the film’s producers and Baldwin after previously filing a wrongful death suit in February.

Hutchins’s husband Matthew Hutchins will now serve as executive producer on the production, which is to resume in January. Hutchins said director Joel Souza, who was injured during the incident on the fateful day, and the original cast will return.
