Saban Films has acquired North American and UK rights to Ida Red, an action thriller starring Josh Hartnett, Frank Grillo and Melissa Leo.
John Swab wrote and directed the film, set to get its world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival on August 11.
Shot last year in Oklahoma during the pandemic, the film is a neo-Western about an American crime family led by Ida ‘Red’ Walker (Leo), who is trying to survive her 20-year prison sentence for armed robbery. Ida turns to her son (Hartnett) for one last job and a chance to regain her freedom.
Jeremy M Rosen (who also cast the film and supervised the music) produced with Robert Ogden Barnum and Swab for Roxwell Films, in association with Bondit Media Capital.
Saban Films’ Bill Bromiley said: “John Swab is an incredible talent whose films speak to his personal experiences with addiction, abuse, crime and redemption. We’re excited to be working with him on Ida Red.”
Saban Films’ upcoming slate includes Todd Randall’s Under The Stadium Lights, starring Laurence Fishburne and Milo Gibson, Joel David Moore’s horror thriller Hide And Seek, with Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and Jared Cohn’s Reactor, starring Bruce Willis.
