Screen International has appointed Tim Dams to the newly-created role of European editor.
Dams is a journalist and editor with more than 20 years’ experience working in the international film and TV sector.
As European editor, Dams will focus on expanding Screen’s news and features coverage of major European territories across film, television, streaming and festivals, working closely with the other senior editors and Screen’s network of European correspondents.
Dams started his career with posts at Media Week and Broadcast, before joining Screen International for the first time as news and analysis editor in 2000, where his duties included news editing Screen’s Cannes and Berlin dailies.
In 2005, he was appointed editor at Televisual, the magazine for the UK production community. During his 12 years in the role, he produced events such as the Televisual Factual Festival and the Televisual Awards, and oversaw benchmark reports such as the annual Production 100 survey.
Since going freelance in 2017, Dams has contributed to Screen International, Broadcast, Variety and Television Business International (TBI) among others.
Dams will report to Screen International editor Matt Mueller and travel regularly to key festivals and events. Based in the UK, he takes up his position from September 12.
Dams said: ”I’m delighted to be joining the wonderful team at Screen as European editor. Screen has an unrivalled reputation for its international coverage, and I’m looking forward to addressing the opportunities and challenges facing the European film and TV drama sectors in its pages.”
Mueller added: “I’m thrilled to welcome Tim to the fantastic Screen team. He has a huge amount of experience as an insightful, knowledgeable film and TV trade journalist, has proved himself as both an outstanding editor and a savvy news reporter, and will be a great asset as we grow and build upon our European coverage. Plus, he’s a really nice guy! I know the European industry will respond to his great combination of smarts and friendly manner.”
