Screen Media has acquired North American rights to South African live-action family adventure White Lion from Showcase Entertainment.

Directed by Michael Swan, the film is the story of a rare white lion cub who becomes one of the most powerful and revered lions in all of Africa. It features over 30 real-life lions trained by ‘lion whisperer’ Kevin Richardson, who serves as producer.

Shot on location at The Kingdom of the White Lion 50 miles from Johannesburg, the film received three South African Film and Television Awards honours, including Best Cinematography (Michael Swan).

The deal was brokered by president and CEO Robert Baruc and David Fannon at Screen Media and Scott Bedno and David Jackson at Showcase Entertainment.
