Gillis joins as head of commercial affairs for See-Saw’s film division ahead of TIFF.
UK production outfit See-Saw has appointed Simon Gillis as the head of commercial affairs in its film division
Gillis joins from Universal Pictures, where he was vice president of acquisitions and production, business and legal affairs.
He has previously held positions at Disney and BBC Films.
Appointed by See-Saw’s joint managing directors Iain Canning and Emile Sherman, Gillis will formally begin his role in time for Toronto International Film Festival (Sept 8-18).
His remit will be to spearhead the company’s commercial activities, including managing business operations on a day to day basis and working on film sales.
See-Saw’s current slate includes TIFF title Lion [pictured], which stars Nicole Kidman and Dev Patel. Previous productions include The King’s Speech, Shame and Macbeth.
Canning and Sherman commented: “As See-Saw continues to grow across both film and television, we need a high level executive able to take control of the film divisions’ commercial operations. We’ve had the pleasure of knowing Simon for many years. He has such a deep and nuanced understanding of the film and media landscape as well as being an incredibly savvy deal maker. He is passionate about film and will be a wonderful cultural fit for our company.”
Simon added: “I’m delighted to join Emile, Iain and their incredibly talented team. It’s an honour to capitalise on such a world-class slate and I can’t wait to help drive their continued success.”
