Senator Entertainment, the German distributor that scored a hit with Intouchables, has secured a three-year output deal with Silver Reel.
The agreement will see Senator take German rights to all international productions backed by the film financing group.
Over a three-year period, Senator plans to release three to four Silver Reel-produced titles a year.
The first titles to fall under the deal are romantic fantasy adventure Fallen by Scott Hicks, director of The Lucky One, and Scottish thriller Under the Skin, directed by Jonathan Glazer and starring Scarlett Johansson.
Fallen is the first adaptation from Lauren Kate’s bestselling Southern Gothic teen novel series. Principal photography begins in the second quarter of 2013 and Senator will release in Germany in 2014.
Under the Skin stars Johansson as an alien in human form on a journey through Scotland. Senator will release the feature in Germany this year.
Senator CEO Helge Sasse said: “With Silver Reel, we have found a partner whose financing activities will secure us early access to successful international film projects, giving us a leg up in the competitive licensing market.”
Silver Reel Claudia Blümhubersaid: “Thanks to their breakout success with titles like Intouchables, the Senator team has earned a lot of cachet in the German market. We look forward to work together in the future.”
Senator has previously released international titles such as Pan’s Labyrinth and The King’s Speech but scored its biggest success to date with French comedy Intouchables, which sold more than 8.7 million tickets in Germany and made around $85m at the German box office.
