French TV festival and industry meeting Series Mania has joined forces with Germany’s Beta Group for a new initiative aimed at feature film directors who wish to venture into TV series.
The initiative, titled Seriesmakers, aims to support filmmakers working on a new scripted series, and will offer €50,000 ($55,295) grants to two out of 10 selected projects.
Eligible for this initiative are director-producer and/or director-writer teams who have had a first or second feature shown in the official selection of an A-list film festival, and who want to create a new series project.
Ten selected teams with a TV series idea will participate in a training programme to create a full pitch-deck, with mentoring from directors, showrunners, writers and producers.
At Series Mania Forum 2023, a jury will award two projects with a Beta development grant of €50,000 ($55,295) each to further develop a pilot script and a full package. These two projects will receive additional support, such as script consulting and packaging offered by Beta’s content division, led by chief commercial officer Koby Gal Raday. The two winning teams will also be invited to present their projects in front of industry leaders at the forum.
Series Mania is currently underway in Lille, and runs until March 25.
