In the run-up to Mipcom Dave Conlon of media company Eggplant Collective and executive producer Michael McGuigan have launched Toronto-based Shadow Pine Studios incorporating the assets of Breakthrough Entertainment and its affiliates.
Shadow Pine will consolidate Breakthrough’s content library and production capabilities with Eggplant’s group of companies including Eggplant Picture & Sound and Eggplant Music & Sound.
The move will allow Shadow Pine Studios and Eggplant to jointly leverage new revenue streams and creative partnerships while offering producers access to Ontario tax credits, post-production services, and a distribution network.
Breakthrough staff members Alicja Wicinski and Leanne Brennan will be joining Shadow Pine Studios as the company’s SVP of operations and head of production, respectively.
The consolidation with Breakthrough brings in more than 35 features and TV movies including genre titles Vicious Fun (pictured), I’ll Take Your Dead, The Oak Room and the upcoming comedy caper Vandits. The company will also acquire a slate of holiday TV films currently in post-production with a focus on developing a larger pipeline of titles moving forward.
Among the TV titles are Greatest Tank Battles, Less Than Kind, and Blood And Water, true crime series I Lived With A Killer, Hollywood Homicide, Cruise Ship Killers, and the recently completed Sunshine Slayings.
“Breakthrough had a long history of creating and distributing exceptional content,” said McGuigan. “With the launch of this new studio, we are well positioned and excited to expand on that tradition of excellence.”
