Silk Factory, the UK-based creative content agency, has hired former FilmNation marketing head Richard Baker as president of US operations.
Based on the East Coast, Baker will participate in AFM 2020 Online next week when he presents a session on marketing for producing and filmmakers.
As FilmNation’s EVP, marketing and creative advertising through the company’s first 10 years, Baker spearheaded the international release of more than 100 prestige titles including Arrival, The King’s Speech, The Big Sick, Room, Under The Skin, Magic Mike, as well as films by Pedro Almodóvar and Terrence Malick.
A professor of marketing at NYU Stern and Tisch, he previously served as VP, international marketing at The Weinstein Company, and head of marketing at Edinburgh International Film Festival.
Silk Factory co-founders John Piedot and Andy Snook said, “Richard is the perfect partner to expand Silk Factory in the US market. He’s a proven leader and an accomplished marketing executive with an exemplary creative sensibility and strong industry relationships.”
Baker said: “We have a wonderfully diverse team of exceptional creative talent at Silk Factory. They consistently put the audience at the heart of everything they do and create standout assets that cut through the noise. I’m genuinely excited to bring my 15 years of client-side experience and help deliver Silk Factory’s ‘special sauce’ to the US. Right out of the gate, we’ll be crafting campaigns for clients across theatrical, streaming, VoD and broadcast platforms.”
FilmNation CEO and founder Glen Basner added: “I trusted Richard with all my marketing and creative advertising for over thirteen years. Fair to say, I think he’s best in class at what he does and I know he’ll lead Silk Factory to great heights.”
Silk Factory’s recent campaign credits include Parasite, Portrait Of A Lady On Fire, Horizon Line, and Crock Of Gold.
