David Scheinmann’s sports drama Believe, starring Brian Cox, to receive simultaneous release in Picturehouse cinemas and on Sky Movies.
Sky Movies will premiere Believe on the same day it goes into UK cinemas in a first for the subscription service.
Sky Movies and exhibitor Picturehouse have partnered with the film’s distributor, Trinity Films, on the deal which will see the film screened at 7pm on July 25, the day of its limited theatrical release, and available on demand on the same day.
The service has previously offered a number of titles to rent via Sky Store prior to theatrical release, including Bachelorette and Veronica Mars.
David Scheinmann’s sports drama, centred on legendary football manager Sir Matt Busby, stars Brian Cox, Toby Stephen and Natascha McElhone.
“We’re delighted to have such a great film to kick off (no pun intended) this experiement in breaking the traditional windows,” commented Ian Lewis, director, Sky Movies.
Cedric Behrel, co-founder/director of Trinity Films, added: “It is a crucial time for the homegrown, independent sector to explore new business models, and we are delighted to have found in Sky and Picturehouse Cinemas partners willing to do just that, with essential support from the BFI.”
The release is being supported by the BFI through a New Models Distribution Fund award.
Believe will receive its premiere on July 23 at the National Football Museum in Manchester.
