As Slamdance kicks off today (24), festival brass and ArcLight Cinemas announced Emergence, a four-day spring festival of screenings, workshops and panels in Hollywood that marks Slamdance’s latest expansion into new markets.
Emergence will run from March 26-29 at the ArcLight Cinemas Hollywood location and will encompass films from this year’s Slamdance submissions, featuring 2020 hits and premieres, with a focus on filmmakers and stories from California.
Organisers expect to announce the line-up in late February. The initiative is an extension of the Slamdance Cinema Club screening series set up in 2014 by Slamdance and ArcLight, and follows an earlier announcement about the upcoming Miami Festival in May.
Slamdance co-founder and president Peter Baxter said, “Slamdance is known for discovering ground breaking filmmakers and ArcLight Cinemas has been providing a year-round place for us to do that. We’ve realized it’s time to take our partnership to the next level, to do more for emerging artists and increase programming diversity. We believe Emergence is a great festival opportunity for the entertainment capital of the world.”
“The Emergence collaboration between Slamdance and ArcLight Cinemas is a testament to our longstanding, yet evolving partnership,” said Kevin Holloway, vice-president of film marketing and operations, ArcLight Cinemas. “Many Slamdance alumni are now mainstays in the industry, pointing to the importance of providing all artists with a platform for expression. ArcLight Cinemas, alongside Slamdance, feels an inherent responsibility to support in this effort with the goal of promoting a healthy film ecosystem.”
The 26th edition of the Slamdance Film Festival begins today in Park City and runs through January 30.
