Sony Pictures and eOne are bypassing a theatrical release of Kristen Stewart LGBTQ+ rom-com Happiest Season and have licensed US rights to Hulu for a November digital launch .
Sony Pictures and eOne co-financed the film and will retain rights in Canada and the rest of the world.
International plans, including potential theatrical releases, will be finalised in the coming weeks.
Clea DuVall’s feature will debut in the US as a Hulu Original film on November 25.
The story centres on a young woman (Stewart) who questions the girlfriend she thought she knew (Mackenzie Davis) after she plans to propose at the latter’s family’s annual Christmas gathering and learns her girlfriend has kept their relationship secret.
DuVall and Mary Holland co-wrote the screenplay from a story by DuVall
Marty Bowen and Isaac Klausner produced, and Wyck Godfrey and Jonathan McCoy served as executive producers.
Alison Brie, Aubrey Plaza, Daniel Levy, Mary Holland, Burl Moseley, Victor Garber, and Mary Steenburgen round out the key cast.
