Sony Pictures Classics (SPC) has set a US awards qualifying run for Eva Husson’s Mothering Sunday and will release for one week at the Landmark in Los Angeles on November 17.
The film starring Odessa Young, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Olivia Colman, Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù and Glenda Jackson will open proper on February 25 2022 in New York and Los Angeles before expanding in the subsequent weeks.
Alice Birch adapted the Mothering Sunday screenplay from Graham Swift’s novella of the same name that takes place in 1924 England as a house maid enjoys a rare chance to see her lover from the nearby manor house who is engaged to another woman.
The film premiered at Cannes Film Festival and has screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and BFI London Film Festival and recently received its US premiere at Hamptons International Film Festival.
Producers are Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley of Number 9 Films. SPC also has the film for Latin America, India, pan-Asia excluding Japan, Middle East, Eastern Europe, Turkey, and airlines and ships worldwide. Rocket Science handles international sales.
