Sony Pictures Networks Productions (SPNP), the film production arm of Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN), has boarded Kireet Khurana’s T For Taj Mahal as co-producer and distributor.
Produced by Abis Rizvi, the film is a story about social entrepreneurship and the lack of education in rural India. The cast includes US actress Ali Faulkner (The Twilight Saga - Breaking Dawn), Subrat Dutta, Bidita Bag and Manoj Pahwa. The film is currently in post-production for theatrical release in India later this year.
Headed by Sneha Rajani, SPNP has previously co-produced story-driven Indian films such as Piku, Poster Boys and Mubarakan. Its most recent production Soorma, a biopic of Indian hockey player Sandeep Singh, is scheduled for release in June 2018.
Khurana said: “T For Taj Mahal is an idea that is built on the fact that education is a basic right and that a simple idea could spark a revolution. I truly believe that cinema has the power to start a relevant conversation that can empower lives.”
Rajani said: “It is our constant endeavour to deliver films, which not only entertain our audience, but also evoke thought. With T For Taj Mahal we are proud to bring to the screen yet another quality story.”
SPN, a subsidiary of Sony Corp, operates 31 channels in India including Sony Entertainment Television (SET), MAX and AXN.
Sony also has a separate local-language film production arm in India under Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE), which recently co-produced PadMan, starring Akshay Kumar.
