Buenos Aires-based FilmSharks has closed a deal in Spain among other territories on the Ricardo Darin rom-com An Unexpected Love (El Amor Menos Pensado).
Filmax has picked up Spanish rights, while FilmSharks chief Guido Rud has licensed the film to Alpha Films for Brazil, Wiesner Distribution for Central America, Cinecolor for Peru, Colombia and Chile, AV Jet for Taiwan, and Feelgood for Greece.
As previously announced, Buena Vista International will launch An Unexpected Love in South America in August on more than 300 prints.
Rud is showing footage in Cannes and said he is in advanced talks for the US, France, Italy and Russia. Darin and Mercedes Moran play a married couple who try to separate and realise they preferred life when they were together. Patagonik’s Juan Vera directs.
Disney-backed Patagonik produced with Darin’s Kenya Films, marking the first credit for his company.
“Most of the buyers made an immediate offer after reading the script and all agreed it’s been a while since they watched one unpredictable scene after another, with refreshing dialogue,” Rud said. “For my this is the kind of magical film that will stay in the history of cinema for ever.”
