Montreal-based Sphere Films, formerly WaZabi Films, has closed the US and key territories on Antonia Campbell-Hughes’ feature directorial debut It Is In Us All, which won a special jury prize at SXSW earlier this year, and Confessions Of A Hitman.
It Is In Us All, financed by Screen Ireland and starring Cosmo Jarvis, Campbell-Hughes, Claes Bang and newcomer Rhys Mannion, has gone to Blue Finch Film Releasing in the UK, Pivot Pictures in Australia and New Zealand and Wolfe Releasing in the US.
The film won a special jury prize for extraordinary cinematic vision at the festival in Austin, Texas, and stars Jarvis as a formidable man forced to confront his self-destructive core when a car crash involving a sexually charged youngster challenges him to face his truth.
Producers are Emma Foley and Tamryn Reinecke of Pale Rebel Productions. Conor Barry of Savage Productions served as executive producer.
“It Is In Us All made a splash at SXSW where it was very well received by buyers and critics alike,” said Sphere Films senior vice-president Anick Poirier. “We are excited that everyone has responded so well to this gem of a film and that key territories stepped up immediately.”
Poirier negotiated with Wolfe VP of content Evan Schwartz in the US and Pivot managing director Louisa Balletti and head of production development and acquisitions Dean O’Flaherty for Australia and New Zealand. Sphere senior vice-president Lorne Price brokered the UK deal with Blue Finch managing director Mike Chapman.
Early Cannes momentum continues with a handful of deals on Luc Picard’s action crime drama Confessions Of A Hitman led by a US deal with Film Movement, a sale to Koch Films for Germany and Italy and a Spanish sale to A Contracorriente.
The film centres on Gérald Gallant, the Canadian contract killer who admitted to killing dozens of people and attempting to murder many more between 1978 and 2003.
