Splendid’s Benelux distribution arm has confirmed two high-profile new acquisitions. The company has picked up Ari Aster’s controversial horror picture Hereditary from A24. It has also swooped for Ludovic Bernard’s Au Bout Des Doigts, sold by TF1 and starring Kristin Scott Thomas and Lambert Wilson.
The deals were confirmed by Splendid’s Erik Engelen, who also revealed details of new productions the company is hatching in the Netherlands.
Splendid moved into production in Benelux with low-budget, teen-oriented high school comedy Misfit starring teen internet sensation Djamila as a girl whose life is turned upside down when she moves back to the Netherlands from the US. A box office hit in the Netherlands, the film is sold in Berlin by Incredible Films.
The company is currently preparing Misfit 2 (working title), which will again star Djamila and will be directed again by Erwin van den Eshof. Start of shoot is scheduled for September. A German remake is also on the cards, to be made through Splendid’s German parent company.
