After launching its Starzplay streaming app in the UK, France, Germany, Mexico and Brazil, US premium cable company Starz says it plans to introduce the app in another 20 international markets next year.
Subscribers to the service from Lionsgate-owned Starz get access to movies and series including originals such as The Spanish Princess and Dublin Murders. The app allows up to four users to watch simultaneously and view offline downloads of select shows and movies.
Starzplay is already available in Europe and Latin America on Apple TV, in the UK, France, Germany and Mexico on Amazon Prime Video channels and on the UK’s Virgin Media, France’s Orange, Spain’s Orange and Vodafone, and Mexico’s Izzi and Totalplay. The service is offered in Canada under an alliance between Starz and Bell Media.
Starz CEO Jeffrey A Hirsch commented: “Starz has experienced great success with the Starz app domestically, remaining ahead of the streaming curve with more than 5.6m OTT customers to date, and that number continues to climb.
”Expanding our direct-to-consumer product into the global arena with the launch of the Starzplay app gives subscribers seamless entry to our platform and premium content on their device of choice, while also providing us with access to key consumer data insights as we continue to position ourselves for success in the evolving content ecosystem.”
