The Producers Guild of America (PGA) has elected Stephanie Allain and Donald De Line as its new presidents.
Allain and De Line, who ran for the roles unopposed, take over from Gail Berman and Lucy Fisher. Berman and Fisher have served as presidents of the non-profit trade group, which has more than 8,000 members, since 2018.
Allain, who becomes the first woman of color to serve as PGA president, is a writer/producer whose films include Hustle & Flow and Dear White People. She was also executive producer on Netflix’s series version of Dear White People and in 2020 became the first Black woman to produce the Oscar show.
Allain previously served on the boards of Women in Film and Film Independent and as director of the LA Film Festival.
Former Disney and Paramount executive De Line has produced films including The Italian Job, Body Of Lies and Ready Player One, as well as Epix series Billy The Kid. He serves on the producers branch executive committee of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Allain and De Line commented, ”As proud members of the PGA for over twenty years, it’s a great privilege to serve as presidents. Gail and Lucy’s excellent leadership has grown and strengthened the Guild, and we will build on their progress. Along with Susan Sprung and her team, we will continue to educate the industry on the role of the producer, support producers’ efforts for fair and commensurate compensation and benefits, welcome and encourage a more diverse membership, and endeavor to attain broader health care coverage while educating members on the current benefits and opportunities available to them.”
