Shane Meadows’ documentary about Manchester band The Stone Roses is to have its UK premiere in Manchester on May 30 - with the group in attendance - satellite-linked to 100 cinemas.

The film, titled The Stone Roses: Made of Stone, will be released across the UK and Ireland on June 5 through Picturehouse Entertainment.

The release will follow it premiere at a location to be announced, with the band set to make a rare public appearance alongside director Meadows and producer Mark Herbert, who produced the feature for Warp Films. The documentary was fully financed by Film4 and 4DVD.

The event will be satellite-linked to 100 cinemas as part of nationwide preview screenings running concurrently with the premiere launch, with tickets for both the host venue and the satellite-linked cinemas made available to the public.

Fans will be able to ask their questions to Meadows, either live at the event in Manchester or from cinemas around the country via Twitter. Tickets will be available from April 17 at 9.30am with further details set to be revealed at www.facebook.com/madeofstonefilm.

Meadows said: “Making this film, I got to be part of something truly remarkable, the double decade awaited ‘resurrection’ of my all time favourite band, The Stone Roses.

“People say that you can’t recapture your youth, it’ll never be the same second time round etc, but that’s utter rubbish. The Roses were never allowed to reach their peak first time around so as far as I and millions of fans around the world were concerned, with this comeback the Roses could be even greater.

“This film isn’t a history lesson, nor is it a two-hour concert film. It is a film about defying the odds, sticking it to the man and telling the cynics to shut their pie-holes!”

Last year, the band reformed after being apart for 16 years. The film features previously unseen archive footage and Meadows has captured the band at work as well as in their everyday lives as they rehearsed for thier reunion, culminating in three homecoming gigs at Manchester’s Heaton Park in front of 220,000 fans.

The Stone Roses formed in 1983 and comprised vocalist Ian Brown, guitarist John Squire, bassist Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield and drummer Alan ‘Reni’ Wren. They released breakthrough album The Stone Roses in 1989 and followed it up with Second Coming in 1994, before disbanding in 1996.
