STX and Lionsgate are understood to be exploring an alliance whereby Lionsgate will handle distribution on STX’s upcoming pipeline of theatrical releases.
The development comes after it emerged this week that Adam Fogelson is departing STX as chairman of the motion picture group and starting at Lionsgate on September 1 as vice-chair of the studio’s motion picture group.
STX’s upcoming slate includes sequel Greenland Migration, Michael Mann’s Ferrari, and Neil Burger’s The Marsh King’s Daughter.
Lionsgate had been linked to a possible acquisition of STX until the latter was bought by Najafi Companies earlier this year following a challenging period for STX dating back to its acquisition by Eros in 2020 and the ensuing pandemic.
Lionsgate’s upcoming slate includes the theatrical releases of Prey For The Devil on October 28, John Wick: Chapter 4 on March 24, 2023; Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret on April 28, 2023; and The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes on November 17, 2023.
Spokespeople for STX and Lionsgate declined to comment.
