TrustNordisk has sealed a number of deals on May el-Toukhy’s Sundance hit Queen Of Hearts, which had a packed market screening at EFM on Friday night.
The film has sold to Benelux (September Films), South Korea (Lumix), Mexico (Cinemex), Israel (Lev Cinema), Greece (Weird Wave), Hungary (ADS service) and Czech Republic and Slovakia (Film Europe).
Queen Of Hearts won Sundance’s audience award (world cinema dramatic) and the film also recently picked up Goteborg’s Dragon Award, which is the world’s most lucrative film award with a cash prize of $110,000.
El-Toukhy’s second feature stars Trine Dyrholm as a woman who embarks on a dangerous affair with her stepson (played by Swedish rising talent Gustav Lindh).
Caroline Blanco & René Ezra produce for Nordisk Film Production. Supporters include the Danish Film Institute, the Swedish Film Institute and Nordic Film & TV Fond, DR and SVT.
El-Toukhy wrote the script with Maren Louise Käehne, continuing their collaboration from 2015’s Long Story Short.
Nordisk has the rights for the five Nordic territories, and will release in Denmark on March 28, also part of the Biografklub Danmark initiative.
TrustNordisk’s busy EFM slate also includes Hans Petter Moland’s Out Stealing Horses in Competition; market screenings for Sonja-The White Swan, Congo and Swoon; promos for Valhalla, The Perfect Patient, Mortal and Lake Of Death, and pre-sales for Niels Arden Oplev’s Daniel, and Thomas Vinterberg’s as-yet-untitled film about drinking.
