Emmy-winning film and television director Susanne Bier has signed on to direct all six episodes of The Undoing, the HBO limited series being written by David E Kelley and set to star Nicole Kidman.
Bier’s previous TV project was The Night Manager, the limited series produced by The Ink Factory for the BBC in the UK and cable network AMC in the US. She won the Primetime Emmy for directing all six episodes of the John le Carré adaptation.
Bier most recently directed Netflix horror-sci-fi feature Bird Box, set for release in the US next month.
Based on 2014 novel You Should Have Known by Jean Hanff Korelitz, The Undoing was given a straight-to-series order by HBO earlier this year.
Kidman will star in the psychological thriller about a successful therapist with a devoted husband and young son who, just before the publication of her book, has to deal with a violent death and a missing husband and create a new life for herself and her child.
Kelley will adapt the book and act as showrunner and executive producer through his David E Kelley Productions. Kidman and Per Saari will be executive producers through their Blossom Films and Bruna Papandrea (who was an executive producer on the Emmy-winning Big Little Lies) will be an executive producer through Made Up Stories.
