Switzerland’s Visions du Réel documentary film festival has unveiled the juries that will oversee the competition strands of its 2022 edition, set to run April 7-17.
The International Feature Film Competition jury will comprise Bosnia’s Jovan Marjanović, who was recently named the new director of Sarajevo Film Festival; Mexican-Ethiopian filmmaker Jessica Beshir, who won the grand prix at last year’s VdR with her debut feature, Faya Dayi; and Beatrice Fiorentino, general delegate of the Venice Film Festival’s Critics’ Week.
They will judge a selection of 16 films, of which all except one are world premieres, with a top prize of 20,000CHF ($21,400) and a special jury prize worth 10,000CHF ($10,700).
The Burning Lights Competition will be judged by Mubi director of content Chiara Maranon; Swiss director Cyril Schäublin, who won best director for Unrest in the Berlinale’s Encounters competition last month; and Argentinian producer Gema Juraz Allen, whose credits include Toronto 2019 title Lina From Lima.
The jury of VdR’s National Competition will include Czech film critic and Karlovy Vary programmer Martin Horyna; Katy Lena Ndiaye, the French-Senegalese director of Time is on Our Side; and Olivier Zobrist, the Swiss producer of Milo Rau’s The New Gospel.
The new Prix Istituto Svizzero will be awarded to a Swiss director whose film features in VdR’s official selection and consists of a one-month residence at the Istituto Svizzero in Rome.
As previously announced, the VDR-Industry jury will include Berlinale artistic director Carlo Chatrian, Dutch producer Ilse Hughan and Israeli producer-director Avi Mograbi.
The festival, held in Nyon, is set to open on April 7 with Sara Dosa’s Fire Of Love. The US-Canada documentary offers a portrait of the volcanologists Katia and Maurice Krafft and premiered at Sundance in January.
