Jojo Rabbit and Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi has signed on to write, direct and executive produce two original animated series based on Charlie And The Chocolate Factory for Netflix.
One series will involve the characters from Roald Dahl’s classic children’s books, whilst the second will focus on the Oompah Loompas.
This is the first project to originate from the major deal signed between Netflix and The Roald Dahl Story Company in 2018.
The streaming giant plans to adapt many of the author’s works into original animated series, including The BFG, The Twits, Matilda, George’s Marvellous Medicine, Boy – Tales of Childhood and Going Solo.
Taika Waititi won the best original screenplay Oscar for Jojo Rabbit at this year’s Academy Awards. His next feature project is sports comedy Next Goal Wins produced by Imaginarium Productions and distributed by Searchlight Pictures.
