Leading Thai production outfit Diversion is expanding into sales with a debut slate at the EFM headed by Kim Quy Bui’s Memoryland and Ananta Thitanat’s documentary Scala, both playing in the Forum at the Berlinale.
Memoryland, which explores death and spirituality in contemporary Vietnam, premiered in Busan’s New Currents competition, while Scala is an ode to Bangkok’s last standalone cinema, which was demolished last year.
The line-up also includes feature documentary Scene Unseen by the late Singaporean director Abdul Nizam and friends, which premiered at Singapore International Film Festival last November.
Diversion founder Mai Meksawan said the company will continue to work with other sales agents for selected projects such as Manta Ray director Phuttiphong Aroonpheng’s upcoming Morrison, which is being sold by The Party Film Sales.
Mai founded the sales arm after a busy 2021. “We realised that we need to support our productions with our own sales structure, which will also enable us to expand into acquisitions and serve Southeast Asia independent cinema.”
Mai handles the sales and festivals along with Patita Jittanont, previously from Mono Film.
