‘The Banshees Of Inisherin’, ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’

The Banshees Of Inisherin and Everything Everywhere All At Once lead the way for the 2023 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards nominations, announced on Wednesday (Jan 11), with five nominations each.

The SAG Awards ceremony takes place in Los Angeles on February 26.

Colin Farrell is nominated for male lead in Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees Of Inisherin while Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan received female lead and male supporting nominations for Everything Everywhere All At Once. All three picked up a Golden Globe on Tuesday (Jan 10).

Additionally, Banshees’ Brendan Gleeson, Barry Keoghan and Kerry Condon, and Everything Everywhere’s Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu were nominated in the supporting categories. Both films picked up ensemble cast nominations too.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, The Fabelmans, The Whale and The Woman King are next in line with two nominations each.

Adam Sandler received a surprise nod for male lead with Netflix’s Hustle, marking the actor’s first prominent nomination for Jeremiah Zagar’s basketball drama. 

In television, Netflix’s Ozark secured the most nominations with four in total; for Jason Bateman, Laura Linney, Julia Garner and drama ensemble. Barry, Better Call Saul and Only Murders In The Building follow with three nominations each.

A24 was the leading film distributor with seven nominations (five for Everything Everywhere and two for The Whale). Netflix has 15 nominations in total, three for film and 12 for TV.

The nominations were announced on an Instagram live by The White Lotus’ Haley Lu Richardson and Ashley Park. Netflix will stream the ceremony live on its YouTube channel as part of a multi-year deal which will see the SAGs move to the streamer in 2024.
